Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of teaching and learning of multiple representations as to the mechanics based on the concept of understanding the dynamics of material particle systems in physics education students. The subjects were students of 3rd semester, amounting to 32 people. The draft study done of the pre-experimental in the form of one-shot casestudy.Instruments collecting data in this study is the achievement test student understanding of the basic concepts of mechanics that consists of five questions as indicators of understanding of theoretical concepts Bloom.Data were analyzed through descriptive analysis techniques to look at the learning outcomes of students understanding of the basic concepts of mechanics by using the criteria of absorption and effectiveness of learning. The results of this study, the average value of the absorption of students with both categories. Of all the indicators of understanding of the basic concepts of mechanics has been obtained that the indicator with the highest absorption contained in classifying indicators by percentage in the very good category while the lowest absorption lies in the indicators compared with the category enough. It can be concluded that the application of multiple representations based learning effective mechanics applied to the material particle system dynamics in physics education students.
