Abstract
Abstract. Science generic skills (SGS) is a very important skills for students. SGS can demonstrate the extent to which learners develop the student skills in how to solve problems, to write the reports,to make teamwork,to have self-assessment, to review the performance of other participants,to learn new knowledge, and to manage stress when they have to cope with change, but there are still a few instruments that can measure SGS especially in chemistry learning. This study aims to develop a valid and effective instrument assessment for measuring SGS of the students. The assessment instrument applies subjective test with a stem arranged in hierarchical manner between questions. The datum were obtained by aiken validation to investigate the validity with focusing on the group discussion. The results show that validity of the assessment instrument is valid. It can be concluded that the SGS assessment instrument was valid and effective to be used to measure the students SGS results.
